Development

This 100-year-old former hammer handle factory is a historic gem in the midst of fast-developing area between Germantown and the Cumberland River in Nashville, and one of the few remaining examples of the former industrial site that remains basically untouched. In conjunction with a large multi-family development surrounding the site, the 22,000 SF brick and timber structure will be salvaged, restored, and re-envisioned as a mixed-use adaptive re-use project. The flagship of the development will be dual restaurant concepts for a nationally recognized chef, representing that chef’s first concepts in the Nashville market. The ground floor includes an intimate casual taco bar and live music venue with private outdoor dining. A shared kitchen and common space connects to the second concept - a large fine-dining seafood restaurant that also includes a small oyster-bar on the second floor connected by both internal and external stairs. The remaining upper level includes 7,000 sf of creative office shell space.

The exterior of the building will receive necessary masonry restoration, new steel windows, a new insulated roof, and new entrances. New entry canopies, signage, and outdoor spaces will be modern, eclectic-yet-complementary additions to the historic character of the existing building. A central plaza space between the historic Hammermill building and the new multi-family development is envisioned as both a community gathering space and a modern, urban plaza.
