Looking back: Nashville architects reflect on their first projects

Justin Lowe, Principal, Centric Architecture

Describe the first project you worked on in the field of architecture. It was a single-family residence, and in my first meeting, the clients (husband and wife) started arguing quite aggressively with each other over some part of the design. I was fresh out of school, and it was awkward. My boss defused the situation quite easily.

What did that project teach you about the business? That we as architects have to wear a lot more hats than just designers. Sometimes, like in this instance, we have to act as marriage counselors.

Why has it stayed with you? I always remember how important what we do is for our clients, and I never want to take the trust of our clients for granted.
